When booking travel through third-party sites like Expedia, you may run into issues using your Sezzle Single-Use Virtual Card. This is due to how those sites process payments.
Why did the Single-Use Card get declined on Expedia?
Expedia and similar travel sites often process your order through multiple merchants (e.g., different airlines or service providers). Since Sezzle’s Single-Use Virtual Card can only be used with one merchant, any additional charges from a second merchant will cause the card to decline or result in multiple pending transactions.
Why do I see multiple pending authorizations on my account?
If Expedia split your booking between two airlines, each airline may attempt to charge your Sezzle card separately. This can cause:
- One charge to go through,
- One charge to decline,
- Or both to show as pending if the merchant hasn’t fully processed the order yet.
Pending charges will typically clear in 7 business days if the order is not captured by the merchant.
What should I do to successfully book travel?
To avoid these issues:
- Create a separate Sezzle Single-Use Card for each airline or merchant and a separate order for each through Expedia, or
- Book directly with the airline, which helps ensure a single merchant is used for the transaction.
Can Sezzle cancel or release the pending transaction?
Unfortunately, Sezzle cannot cancel or expedite the release of pending authorizations. These are temporary holds placed by the merchant, and they must expire or be canceled on their end.
Once the hold expires or the merchant confirms they will not process the charge, the funds will be released automatically.
What happens if my flight wasn’t booked, but I have a charge?
If the order was not successfully processed by the merchant, the charge will typically remain pending for up to 7 business days. If it’s not captured, it will be automatically canceled.
If you are unsure about the status of your booking, we recommend contacting the airline or Expedia directly for more information.
