A service fee is a prepaid fee (finance charge) incurred when creating a single-use virtual card1 to pay in 42 with certain merchants without having a subscription. In the Sezzle app, you can see which virtual card merchants incur a fee under the following filters: Anywhere, Premium, and Sezzle Partner.

Once your order is placed, the service fee is applied with the down payment. If the single-use card is not used (i.e., the order is not placed or canceled), the entire loan amount, including fees and installments, will be returned to your estimated spending power.
Can it be refunded?
Generally speaking, the service fee is prepaid and is not refundable. The service fee may be partially rebated from outstanding installments if paid off early or if the order is refunded in full or in part before the 6-week loan timeline.
How can I avoid a service fee?
Some or all service fees may be automatically be waived as a benefit with an active subscription and while shopping with eligible merchants. Learn more about our subscription programs here:

For example, for a $300 loan, you would make one $75 down payment today, then three $75 payments every two weeks for a 35.40% annual percentage rate (APR) and a total of payments of $305.99 which includes a $5.99 Service Fee (finance charge) charged at loan origination. Service fees vary and can range from $0 to $5.99 depending on the purchase price and Sezzle product. Actual fees are reflected in checkout.
